Sports Center Gezirah Sporting Club, Cairo, Egypt
Sports Center Gezirah Sporting Club was founded in 1882 on the island district of Zamalek in Cairo, Egypt and was formerly called Khedivial Sporting Club. With a total area of 150 acres, the club is attested as Egypt’s biggest multi-sport facility. It was initially meant for the British Army, and then it was nationalized in 1952 and so attracting many elite Egyptians to be a member of the club. The middle and lower classes were able to join later on after the aristocratic asset of the club was turned into a public asset. Basketball, golf, tennis, hockey, polo, swimming, ballet, and fencing are only a few of the sports played at the site.
