Strahan: Tasmania’s Regatta Point
Strahan, Australia is a small town in Tasmania that was originally a port for the surrounding mining settlements. It used to be called “Long Bay” or “Regatta Point” until it was renamed after Sir George Cumine Strahan in 1877. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, it also served as a port for regular passenger and cargo shipping.
Best Time to Visit
Tourists shall visit Strahan anytime between November and April if they want to take advantage of the good weather. There is usually a high influx of tourists in the months of January, September, and October. The influx is usually at its lowest in August, leading to relatively cheaper plane tickets and hotel rates. Tourists shall witness Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, one of the world’s most gruelling yet exciting ocean races. It starts at Sydney Harbour on December 26 and ends at Hobart. Thousands of people gather at Hobart Race Village to welcome the competitors. Another interesting event to check out is Festival of Voices (FoV), a two-week celebration every July. The original marquee winter event of Tasmania, FoV began in 2004 to celebrate the voice and bring people together.
