JieyangChaoshan International Airport – SWA WaishaShantou, China
The Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport (SWA-Waisha) is an international airport currently serving the cities of Jieyang, Chaozhou, Shantou, and other nearby areas in Guangdong. It is often confused with the Shantou Waisha Airport – a civil aviation facility that was shut down in 2011. The Jieyang site was actually opened just in time for the shutdown, effectively making it a replacement of the old airport. Airlines servicing the airport include AirAsia, AirChina, China Southern Airlines, and others.
Best Time to Visit
The current airport started building in 2009 but was stalled in 2011 due to inconsistencies with the building plan. Fortunately, construction was quickly restarted and eventually opened for commercial use in December of 2011. Budget was set at 3.8 billion yuan which led to the creation of a facility of around 55,000 square meters, having 12 jetways, and a domestic and international terminal. Further development have been made over the year with overall traffic capacity an astounding 4.5 million passengers per year. Thanks to the connecting railway station, you can quickly visit cities like the Baisha Nongchang or Dabuyang without any problem.
