Taketomi: Town with Unspoiled Landscape
Taketomi, Japan is an island that is in the coastal area of Ishigaki. The site is preserved and old Ryukyu village can still be seen when visiting the town. The island is very small and oftentimes a day trip will suffice for those who want to be immersed in the unspoiled landscape. Because of the preservation efforts that are done by the government, the town still keeps traditional architecture from stone walls to red tiles roofs. There are traditional houses that are being used as shops and restaurants. There are no cars in the island. One must walk and rent a bike to go around Taketomi.

Tanadui Festival is the largest event in the island that is held in October. It attracts thousands of visitors from nearby areas and foreign tourists. Taketomi, Japan hotels are fully booked during this time of the year. The best time to visit is from June to October. It is best to avoid the Japanese holidays.

Wood structure homes with red roof tiles and limestone walls are the popular features of Taketomi. It gives character to the village.
