Tashkent: The Multi-Ethnic City
Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, is also its largest city. The city’s name translates to “stone city.” Tashkent, Uzbekistan is home to myriad of cultures including influences from Turkish, Islam, Mongolian, and Russian. Many of the signs in this city are written in Russian Cyrillic alphabet and the Roman alphabet. Twelve kilometers from the center of the city is the Tashkent International Airport.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan features a mix of Mediterranean and Continental climate. Summers tend to be longer than usual, running from months of May until September. Winter, on the other hand, is long, snowy, and dreary from months of December to February. It is best to visit between March to May and October as these are the months with comfortable temperature. The city usually holds the International Gastronomic Festival every August.
