Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in Amarillo, Texas is a campus of a Lubbock-based public medical school. It is a separate entity from TTU. Founded in 1969, it has significantly improved the healthcare access in the area.
There are several fun things to do in the area, such as visiting Palo Duro Canyon. It is called “The Grand Canyon of Texas” because of its dramatic geological features and enormous size. In fact, it is the second biggest canyon system in the country. The area has campsites, hiking trails, and pavilions. Another interesting site to visit in the area is Helium Centennial Time Columns Monument. Erected in 1968, it is popular for its 4 time capsules, which are supposed to be opened on its 25th, 50th, 100th, and 1,000th anniversary, respectively. It was built as a commemoration of the 100th year since helium was discovered. Tourists should also visit Wonderland Park. Founded in 1951, it is home to 4 roller coasters - Cyclone, Hornet, Mouse Trap, and Texas Tornado. It also features children’s rides and water rides.
