Townsville Airport – TSV
Townsville Airport is a regional airport located in Garbutt, Queensland. It serves the city of Townsville, Queensland and its neighboring areas. Owned by the Department of Defense, it is operated by the Queensland Airport Limited. The airport is also referred to as the Townsville International Airport and also as the Garbutt Airport, in reference to its location. Its airport code is TSV. In addition to being a common use civilian facility, the airport also shares access with the RAAF Base Townsville. It has the distinction of being the first Australian regional airport to have been granted international airport status.
Best Time to Visit
The first airport in what is now Townsville Airport was built in the 1920s. In 1940, the civilian airport was built alongside the RAAF Base Townsville. Some of the passenger airlines that cater to this airport include Airnorth, Alliance Airlines, Jetstar Airways, Qantas, Virgin Australia, and Qantas Link. It is also an important cargo hub and is served by the Australian Air Express, HeavyLift Cargo Airlines, and Toll Priority. Townsville Airport has an integrated terminal building with domestic arrivals on one end and international arrivals on the other. In 2015, development plans were announced in a bit to modernize the facilities.
