Wenshan: Home of the Tai Ethnic Group
Wenshan, China is a hidden gem in Yunnan Province which boasts of a beautiful lake, emerald mountains, and beautiful lotus blooms. It is home to the Tai ethnic group that shares the same culture as its neighboring Vietnamese and Thai counterparts. There are also other eleven ethnic minorities coexisting together in this small town. It is serviced by the Wenshan Puzhehei Airport (WNH) which is less than a mile away from the town proper.
Best Time to Visit
The months of July and August are the best time to visit Wenshan Province as the landscape is at its most beautiful during this season. However, those who want to experience Tai’s Songkran Festival should set their Wenshan accommodation reservation in the second week of April.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Going to the Puzhehei Scenic Area is a must when visiting Wenshan. This site is home to the Karst cave, Yi Village, lotus world, and the pastoral land of Yunnan. Another beautiful scenery is the Mt. Yanshan Yuxian Lake with its green slopes and peaceful water streams. For accommodation needs, Tonghui Garden Hotel, which fronts a mountain, offers guests convenient access to many relaxation spots such as the Xihua Park and the Chengjisihan Park. Meanwhile, those who would like to stay downtown can make their reservations at the JI Hotel Wenshan which is close to the Waterfront Carnival Playground and the Tsinghua Cave Tourist Area. The Sapaly Hotel Lao Cai may be far but its luxurious rooms will be worth the travel.
