Ahwahnee: A Mountain Community Filled With Awesome Adventure
Nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountain, Ahwahneee is a census-designated place in Madera County, California. The name ”Ahwahnee” is from an Yosemite Indian Tribe, Southern Sierra Miwok word “awwo” which means “mouth” in English, for they saw the Yosemite Valley shaped like a large mouth. Ahwahnee’s community will continue to exist over time as the people of the area mostly do. Visitors from the San Joaquin Valley and the Merced will continue to drive through this town on their way to Bass Lake, Yosemite National Park and to other attractions that Ahwahnee is famous for.
