Akron: A Town of Railroad Origins
Akron is a town in Washington County, Colorado. It is also the most populous municipality in the county. Akron, Colorado is located along the Burlington Northern Railroad line. In the past, it was the only established town along the railroad line so it was of great importance to the railway men in the state. The town was also named after Akron, Ohio, the hometown of one of the railroad employee’s wife. In 1887, 5 years after the town was platted, it was finally incorporated. Today, visitors can reach Akron through the nearest Denver International Airport, which is an hour and 35 minutes’ drive to the town.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Akron, CO and enjoy its outdoor activities is from May to September. The weather is good overall with limited rainfall. During July it can get pretty hot in the town. For those who want to enjoy Akron on a much cooler weather, January would be the best time as it would the town’s coldest time.

Akron Public Park is a nice place to start and just enjoy watching the locals and the nice scenery. It is a family-friendly place and comes with a playground where kids can enjoy playing. Learn a bit of Akron and the county with a visit to the Washington County Museum. Get a little shopping done just a few minutes from town, at the quaint Farm House Market.
