Aktau: A Seaside Retreat in Kazakhstan
Lying on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea, Aktau, Kazakhstan is a city whose name means "white mountain" after the cliffs that jut out into the sea. The city was originally developed for uranium mining, which is why its streets are formatted after the block address system. Today, the city is known as the home of the country's oil industry. The nearest airport is Aktau Airport (SCO), 18 miles away.
Best Time to Visit
