Araruama: A Balance of Citrus and Salt
Araruama came from a Tupi word, which means abundance of shells or bird promising. It is a coastal town in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil that houses a huge portion of the Atlantic forest. Its main industries are based on salt and are the largest producer of citrus all over Rio de Janeiro. The closest airport to Araruama is the Cabo Frio International Airport (CFB) but another option is to take a bus for a 3-hour ride from Santos Dumont.
Best Time to Visit
Tourists usually flock the town from January to June because it is a good time to enjoy the beaches and lagoons, celebrate New Year, or join the carnival. A lesser number of guests are expected on October and hotel accommodations are less expensive.

Araruama is a home to several lagoon and ocean beaches. The most visited is Beach Vargas because of its white sand and infrastructure.
