Amami Airport – ASJ Airport
Amami Airport can be found in Amami, in Amami Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. It is located 13.6 miles northeast of the city. It is categorized as a public airport and is operated by the government. A number of airlines operate in the airport, taking passengers to different destinations in the country.
Best Time to Visit
ASJ Airport first opened in June of 1964 as Amami Oshima Airport and located on what is now known as Amami Park. In 1988, a new airport, currently Amami Airport, was opened to serve as a jet airport with a new location along the coast and the first airport was closed. The length of the first runway made was 2,000 meters long. Later, the addition of a parallel taxiway took place as well as the addition of equipment namely a precision approach light and instrument landing device. Japan Airlines, Japan Transocean Air, Peach, Skymark Airlines, and Vanilla Air operate passenger service in the airport with destinations to Osaka, Tokyo, Fukuoka and many other cities in the country.
