Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is known as the 2nd busiest airport in India, 14th busiest airport in Asia and 28th busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic in 2017. It is a major public airport that is located in Mumbai, India, and serves Mumbai Metropolitan area. Its airport code, BOM, stands for Mumbai’s former name which is Bombay. Sahar International Airport before, the airport was renamed after Chhatrapati Shivaji in 1999, the Maratha Empire emperor crowned in 1674. As of the year 2018, the airport has handled 49.8 million passengers.
