Castro: A Coastal Town of History, Art, and Tradition
Found on the Estero de Castro on the eastern section of the island of Chiloé, Castro, Chile is the capital city of the province of Chiloé. It doubles as a gateway to the eastern islands of the archipelago as well. The town is widely visited thanks to its strategic location and the traditional wooden stilt houses dotting the area. Aside from these, numerous hotels and accommodations can be seen in Castro too.
Best Time to Visit
The week-long celebration of Festival Costumbrista in Castro is one of the most highly anticipated events in the city. It is hosted every February and features traditional food and folk music.
