Chatan: A Cozy Military Town
Okinawa prefecture has a vibrant and charming town called Chatan, Japan. Before World War II, the town was a land rich with agricultural crops especially rice paddies but to present, half of it are now US Military bases. Chatan is also fondly known as Chatan-cho. The town center is about a 40-minute drive from the Naha International Airport.
Best Time to Visit
Chatan, Japan has hot and wet summers but cool and dry winters. It is said to be windy throughout the year thus it may also get chilly. Generally, huge crowds are expected during the months of October to December which also happen to be the best months to visit because of the favorable weather. However, January, February and March are also great months to plan a trip to this charming town. Although, the famous Chatan Seaport Carnival happens around summer so if you do want to experience that, come around on July.

When it comes to sightseeing, Nihama American Village is the place to go. But if you want to cool down on a hot day, beaches such as the Araha Beach, Miyagi Coast, and Sunset Beach are where you should be. Nature activities such as hiking and cave exploring can also be done at the Okinawa World Culture Kingdom Gyokusendo and the Bise No Fukugi Tree Road.
