Comitan De Dominguez: The Beauty of Mayan Heritage
Comitan De Dominguez, Mexico or Comitan is a city in Chiapas first known as “Balun Canan”. Then, it briefly became “Comitán de las Flores”. Finally, in 1915, it adopted its current name after Dr. Belisario Dominguez. It is the state’s fourth biggest city.
Best Time to Visit
The perfect time to visit Comitan De Dominguez is during the months of October through March, for the best weather. Peak tourist season is usually during the months of January, February, and April. Tourists are least likely to visit in October. One of the most exciting nearby events is Fiesta Grande de Enero in Chiapa de Corzo, which is held every mid-January. Held for a week, it is one of the liveliest festivals in the country. It features nightly dances where young men are cross-dressed. Meanwhile, women wear colorfully embroidered chiapaneca dresses. The event also involves a canoe battle and fireworks display.
