Owned by the city of Bangor and operated by the sports and entertainment company Spectra, the Cross Insurance Center is a multi-function arena with a capacity of 5,800 seats and up to 8,500 people. It broke ground in 2011 and was eventually finished two years later, costing roughly $65 million. The Cross Insurance Center serves as the headquarters of the University of Maine Black Bears' basketball teams. Apart from hosting most of the university's basketball games, the arena also accommodates several concerts and musical performances, some of the performers being John Fogerty, Elton John, and James Taylor.
Another one of Bangor's popular landmark is the Darling's Waterfront Pavilion, initially referred to as the Bangor Waterfront Pavilion. This open-air amphitheater is nestled inside Waterfront Park and serves as the venue of the Waterfront Concert Series. Before its expansion in 2013, the pavilion can host up to 8,000 spectators but can now hold an additional 7,000. About a ten-minute walk from the amphitheater is the Maine Discovery Museum, a three-story children's museum dedicated to learning and discovery. It features various interactive exhibits, showcasing science, music, geography, and culture.
