Forsyth, Montana is one of the cities and the current seat of the Rosebud County. The earliest settlement in the region was recorded in the Yellowstone River and was established as a town in 1976. It was named after General James William Forsyth in 1882, a period that covered the Indian Wars in the region. The town played as one of the major transportation venues of the region that started with the steamboat and eventually evolved to railways and interstate highways. Carol Thurston a popular actress during the early 1960s was from the area.
