Holidaying in Maine’s Prettiest Harbor
Located between the Kennebec and Sheepscot rivers, Georgetown is an island originally known as Erascohegan, or “good spear fishing.” The area was later joined with Woolwich, Phippsburg, Bath and Fort St. George to form Georgetown. However, by 1841, these other towns have been incorporated as standalone towns, leaving Parker’s Island to be the sole holder of the name Georgetown. Today, Georgetown, Maine is considered a fishing town and a summer resort.
Best Time to Visit
Most tourists come during the months of spring and summer, which makes accommodation rates go up. So plan in advance and book early to get good Georgetown hotel rates. If you don’t like the crowds, visit Georgetown in winter. Events include Autumnfest (October) in nearby Bath.
