Kakamega Airport – GGM
The Kakamega Airport is a civilian airfield serving the town of Kakamega, Kenya. It is under the rule of the county of Kakamega and is almost at the international border with Uganda. This small airport is internationally recognized as GGM and HKKG, its IATA airport code and ICAO airport code, respectively. Currently, the airport is under the administration of the Kenya Airports Authority.
Best Time to Visit
The GGM airport sports an asphalt-paved runway with a length of 1,280 meters and a width of 15 meters. Fly540 and Fly County are the only airlines serving Kakamega Airport as of the moment. These airlines connect the city to the cities of Nairobi, Konawaruk, and Eldoret. If you happen to visit the Kakamega, make sure to include the nearby town of Kisumu in your itinerary, as well.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Most of the closest hotels to Kakamega Airport are found on the western side of the airfield. Two of these accommodations are within four kilometers from the aerodrome, Kakamega Sheywe Hotel and Mulembe Villa, both of which have available airport shuttles for guests. They are also conveniently found just a few kilometers away from Kakamega Forest, Muliro Gardens, and MasindeMuliro University of Science and Technology. There are also excellent hotels in Kisumu, like the Wigot Gardens, which is only 22 miles away and the Le Savanna Country Lodge and Hotel, located 24.99 miles from the GGM.
About an hour and a half away from Kakamega Airport is Kisumu International Airport, which primarily serves the city of Kisumu, the biggest town on the western side of the country. You can also fly into the area through the Mumias Airport, which is less than an hour away from Kakamega.
