Since its inauguration in the late 1940s, the airport has been served by major airline carriers. Monarch Airlines was the very first one to provide flights from Albuquerque to Salt Lake City. In the 1950s, Frontier Airlines has taken over and added flights going to Denver and Phoenix. In the 1990s, commercial airline traffic has suffered throughout the country and this has affected the flights coming from the airport. In 2008, the airport has not been served by an airline.
