Iida: Join the Puppet Fiesta
Iida, Japan is a small town located in the Ina Valley. It is located in the southern area of Nagano Prefecture. To its east is the Nakasendo and Kiso Valley. It is within close proximity to the center of Japan. The town is easily accessible to Nagoya via Chuo Express. There is also a direct transport link via bus from the capital city of Tokyo. The central area of Iida is known for producing various types of fruits from apples, pears, and even strawberry. Tourists who are visiting the place will love to take a sip of Japanese sake which is a specialty in the mountain area.
Best Time to Visit
Iida is known for its Puppet Theater or commonly known as bunraku which started in the Edo Period. There are several troupes that still exist in the town. In 1979, the famous Iida Puppet Fiest was established. It is held in August. Pupper masters from different parts of the world gather in the town. Expect busy Iida, Japan hotels during this festival.

Sanwa Tourist Farm is an ideal destination for travelers with children. Iida City Kawamoto Kihachiro Puppet Museum is open all year round. There are several puppet shows that are scheduled all throughout the day. Motozenko-ji Temple is also interesting for those who want to learn about the culture. Tenku-no-shiro Sangitei-honkan is located at the top of the hill. It is known for its food and a great view. Hotel Route-Inn Iida is a 3-star hotel and short walk to the train station.
