In 1920, the local government suggests the need for an airport. Clint Miller pledge about $17,000 for the development of the facilities. It was called Miller Municipal Airport which is serving cities like New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore. In 1930s, the airport land was expanded and a fourth runway way added. During the war, it became a training base for the military. Piedmont Airlines took over after the war and they have changed the name of the airport to its current title. Over the years, other airlines are serving the airport. Elon College and Gibsonville are some of the cities surrounding the facility.

The Historic Brookstown Inn is almost 4 miles from the INT. It is a combination of Old World and modern craftsmanship. Guests will be attracted to the historical preservation of the Old Cotton Mill.
