The Hilo International Airport earning the code ITO, was originally named the General Lyman Field. It is a state-operated facility covering around 1,391 acres of land. Being one of the two major airports in Hilo, Hawaii, the facility serves the whole area but primarily caters to the eastern portion of the territory. While several airlines like the Southwest Airlines and the United Airlines have flights to the airport, most of the traffic comes from Hawaiian Airlines with flights to and from Honolulu. The airport is categorized as a small-hub primary commercial service facility.
