One of the most popular events in town is Kaiteriteri BIG BIKE Weekender, which is held every April. It is a six-hour relay around the Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park. Competitors may enter in teams of up to 4 people each or even go solo.

Wilsons Abel Tasman National Park is one of the most well-known attractions in the area. Established in 1942, it was named after Abel Tasman, the first European explorer to sight the country. It opened that same year to commemorate the 300th year since Tasman discovered New Zealand in 1642.
