Taken from the Salish word meaning "flat land above the lake", Kalispell, MT is a city in, and the county seat of Flathead County, Montana, United States. It sits on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains, adjoined by the Kootenai and Flathead National forests and effectively forming a gateway to Glacier National Park. As the biggest city in Northwest Montana, Kalispell is recognized as the county seat and commercial center of Flathead County and seen as a secondary enterprise hub with a trade area of roughly 130,000. Because of its location, Kalispell has enjoyed a spurt in tourism, paving the way for economic development. This is seen by the number of luxury hotels, luxury chain shops, and the Kalispell Regional Medical Center, which boasts a 150-bed facility. The town's aviation needs are served by the Glacier International Airport.

With Montana getting snowy between November and April, most tourists prefer to flock to Kalispell, Montana during the summer. This is the city's busiest season, so it is wise to book accommodations at least 3 months early. However, those looking to avoid the crowd should not schedule a trip during Christmas/New Year week and Labor Day weekend as hotel rates are at the highest during these times. Instead, plan a trip in May when temperatures are pleasant but room rates are 40% less compared to what you would have paid in July. Temperatures are in the mid-50s, a little colder than the average 75°F in the high season.
