Kefalos: Visit the Small Archeological Town
Kefalos, Greece is a beautiful and picturesque village which is located in the southwestern part of the island. It is about 30 minutes away from the main Kos town. In the old-time, it was called the Astypalaia and it was the capital of the island. The first archeological place found in town is the Aspri Petra. The town is separated into two parts. There is a traditional village that is found on the hilltop. There is also the Kamari area which is located in the waterfront area and it is located in the harbor of the village. Astypalaia Island National Airport (JTY) is almost 2 hours away.
Best Time to Visit
The most famous event in Kefalos is the Fish Festival which is held in the first part of August. It is considered one of the Hippocratic festivities that draw a lot of people. Expect Kefalos, Greece hotels to be busy. The peak season for a beach holiday is between June and September.

There are a lot of popular attractions in the area. The most popular is the Kefalos Beach. One can also explore the Kos Castle, located in the center of the town. For those traveling with kids, the Lido Waterpark is the best place to go. For those who are just passing by the village, there is the Zeus Hotel which is the nearest accommodation from the city center. The Manolis Studios has a kitchenette, an outdoor pool, and located just 0.18 miles to the beach.
