Kuwana: A Land of Japanese Wonders
Kuwana, Japan is a city in Mie first known as “Juraku-no-tsu” during the late Heian and Muromachi periods. It was founded as a town in 1889. The modern city was established in 1937.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Kuwana is during the months of April through June, for the perfect weather. The busiest months are usually March, May, and October. Tourists are least likely to visit in July. One of the most exciting events in the city is Tado Festival, which is held every Golden Week on May 4 and 5. The main highlight of the festival is a horse jumping event. Another main feature of the event is yabusame, a type of archery. In 1978, it was declared one of the country’s Designated Intangible Cultural Properties.
What to Do & Area Attractions
One of the most famous attractions in the area is Nagashima Spa Land, an amusement park. It offers kid rides, roller coasters, thrill rides, and waterpark. It also has a giant ferris wheel. Another must-see attraction nearby is Kameyama Castle in Kameyama. It originated from the 13th century, thanks to its founder Seki Sanetada. Currently, it is home to Buddhist temple of recent origin, Kameyama City History Museum, and Omoto-ji. Tourists should also visit Mie Prefectural Art Museum in Tsu.
