Rene Mouawad Air Base KYE Tripoli
The Rene Mouawad Air Base is a joint airport located in Tripoli, Lebanon. It has an airport code of KYE, which stands for the airport’s former name, Kleyate Airport. The airport serves as both a civil and military airport, given its location near the Lebanese-Syrian border. The airport’s history can be traced in 1960s, when it was used for transporting the staff of an oil company between Arab companies and Tripoli. The army obtained the airport in 1966, and redeveloped it to be one of the region’s most modern bases. The airport was damaged due to an Israel-Lebanon conflict in 2006.
