Labuan Bajo, Exploring the Beautiful Coastal Town of Indonesia
Being located on the biggest island in the Nusa Tenggara region, the residents of Labuan Bajo, Indonesia primarily lives off of fishing. The town is on the Flores island and serves as the West Manggarai Regency’s capital. From a fishing village in the past, Labuan Bajohas developed into a tourism center, thanks to the natural beauty of the area. You can easily reach the town through the Komodo Airport lying on the outskirts of the town. Numerous hotels and accommodations dot the town, especially at the beach area.
Best Time to Visit
The town is packed with thousands of tourists in March as the weather is particularly pleasant and the annual Komodo Festival is held. The five-day event features all things Komodo, from the photography contest to the parade. Most of Labuan Bajo, Indonesia hotels are fully booked during this season, so best book ahead. September to November is the least visited months of the town.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Labuan Bajo is home to a wide variety of natural features such as waterfalls, trekking sites, and beautiful beaches. About four kilometers east of the town is the lovely Mirror Stone Cave, or most locally known as Batu Cermin Cave, which was discovered way back in 1951 and boasted of its reflective features when struck by the sun. There are also interesting churches in the town, such as the St. Angela Church. You shouldn’t miss the Waecicu Beach as well which is lined with luxurious hotels, some of which are the Waecicu Eden Beach Hotel, the Puri Sari Beach Hotel, and the posh Plataran Komodo Beach Resort.
