Lahad Datu Airport – LDU Lahad Datu, Malaysia
A public-use airport serving the town of Lahad Datu and its neighboring districts such as Kinabatangan stands only half a mile away from the downtown of Lahad Datu, Felda Sahabat and Kunak. The Lahad Datu Airport (LDU) is the only airport in Lahad Datuin the southeastern part of the Malaysian state of Sabah. There were 140,077 passengers who used the airport and 3,713 aircraft movements in 2016. It is managed by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.
Best Time to Visit
Lahad Datu Airport is equipped toaccommodate smaller aircraft like the Fokker 50s. With recent upgrades done, its terminal building can now handle up to 100,000 passengers annually as well as offer enhanced facilities and amenities. It has an asphalt runway. At present it serves regular domestic flight to Kota Kinabalu and vice versa. Additional flights to Sandakan on two fleet daily, have also been added recently. More improvements await the small airport soon as it continues to undergo rehabilitation works. The nearby city of Lahad Datu and Kilang Balak Bakapit are conveniently close to LDU airport.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The airport area is dotted with many hotels that provide travelers to and from LDU easy access. The Fajar Hotel Lahad Datu is just around the corner. The Silam Dynasty Hotel has free parking services, and an in-house restaurant. The Tabin Wildlife Resort offers a hotel restaurant as well as local tour assistance and recreational activities.
The Tommanggong Airport (TMG) in Tommanggong, Sabah is a two-hour drive from TMG but it may no longer be in operation.
