Louangnamtha Airport – LXGLuang Namtha, Laos
Louangnamtha Airport is a public/civic airport located near the city of Luang Namtha, Laos. Offering only domestic flights, it serves the city of Luang Namthain Northern Laos which is a popular tourist destination and a jump-off point for trekking and biking to the surrounding villages. Operated by the Laos Civil Aviation Authority, it bears the IATA code of LXG. The airport was temporarily closed for renovation from 2006 to 2008. It re-opened with better facilities and amenities to accommodate a growing number of passenger volume as well as to be at par with mandated aviation standards.
Best Time to Visit
As a result of the renovation of the Louangnamtha Airport (LXG), the runway was rehabilitated and extended to allow larger airplanes to use the air facility. A new and bigger passenger terminal was built as well as a control tower. Installation of other emergency and fire service equipment and air navigation services was also done. Local airline companies Lao Airlines and Lao Skyway use the airport for their daily flights to Vientiane. The city of Luang Namtha and its surrounding tribal villages are the primary destination of passengers who come from the airport.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Hotels located within 8 kilometers off the Louangnamtha Airport are not too many but some of them are the 3-star Louang Namtha Royal Hotel, the well-appointed Thoulasith Guesthouse and the modest Dokchampa Hotel. Two of these provide shuttle service to the airport and vice versa and it comes with a minimal fee.
