Astor Piazzolla International Airport – MDQ Mar del Plata
Astor Piazzolla International Airport, Mar del Plata, Argentina (MDQ) or Mar del Plata Airport is both a public and military airport that is owned and operated by Aeropuertos Argentina 2000. The agency has been operating the airport since 1998. The airport was named after Brigadier General Bartolome de la Colina, one of the founders of the Argentine Air Force. However, it was once again renamed in 2008, in honor of famous composer and musician, Astor Piazzolla.

Obviously, a small airport, Astor Piazzolla International Airport is situated at a 1,080-acre land with a 7,218-foot long runway. The terminal building was established in 1978 for the FIFA World Cup. Then, in 1994, the terminal building was further expanded for the Pan American Games. Currently, there are three (3) airlines operating at the airport. Aerolineas Argentinas has seasonal routes to Buenos Aires-Aeroparque. Austral Lineas Aerias has scheduled routes to Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires-Aeroparque, Buenos Aires-Ezeiza, Comodoro Rivadavia, Rio Gallegos, Trelew, and Ushuaia; and seasonal routes to Cordoba, Mendoza, Rosario, and Tucuman. Lastly, Andes Lineas Aerias has season routes to Buenos Aires-Aeroparque. In 2017, the airport had a total passenger traffic of 301,684 with a total of 6,992 aircraft operations. Interesting destinations near the airport include Laguna Brava, Punta Mogotes, and Sierra de los Padres.
