Memanbetsu Airport – MMB Memanbetsu
Memanbetsu Airport operates with an airport code of MMB and is run by the local government. This public airport is located in Memanbetsu, Japan particularly in the section of Ōzora in Hokkaidō. MMB-Memanbetsu serves an average of a million passengers every year.
The airfield in Memanbetsu opened in 1985 and was built to replace the original Memanbetsu Airport with the objective of moving the airport closer to the city center to make it more accessible to the public. In 2000, the new airport’s runway was extended to improve the air service. Originally, MMB-Memanbetsu Airport was located in the town of Memanbetsu until a merger consolidated Memanbetsu with the Higashimokoto in 2006 to Ōzora.
Best Time to Visit
In 2011, the government of Hokkaido confirmed that the airport is waiving the landing fees for international charter flights. This move was conceived to attract more international tourists to fly to the region. Passengers traveling in and out of MMB can fly to a few domestic routes including Tokyo, Nagoya, Sapporo, and Osaka. MMB serves the town of Memanbetsu along with its surrounding cities including Shitakara, Kushiro, Fubushinai, Akubetsu, and Akankohan.
