Mount Cook Aerodrome – MON Mount Cook
Mount Cook Aerodrome (MON) is an airport located in Mount Cook Village, New Zealand and is operated by Aoraki Mount Cook Airport Ltd. Previously, MON-Mount Cook operates regularly scheduled flights until it was canceled in 2002. However, from 2012 to 2013, Mount Cook Airline started using the airport again with flights from MON to Queenstown and Christchurch airports. The airline serviced by MON Airport is a subsidiary of Air New Zealand. However, the airline also discontinued its services due to lack of passengers. Meanwhile, the Mount Cook Aerodrome is mainly used for general aviation.
Best Time to Visit
Mount Cook Aerodrome primarily caters to the residents of Aoraki or Mount Cook which is commonly called Mount Cook Village as well as Lake Tekapo. This town is situated in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park which can be reached at the end of State Highway 80. Mount Cook Village is 9.3 miles from New Zealand’s highest mountain, Aoraki/Mount Cook nestled in the Southern Alps. MON serves a small population of 250 residents.

The Hermitage is a highly popular hotel which was originally built in 1884. This hotel is the only tall building in the village making it a popular destination for tourists. The Aoraki Court Motel, on the other hand, offers modern accommodations and stunning panoramic views of the mountains. The 5-star Glentanner Park Centre is around 10 miles away from the airport.
Glentanner Aerodrome (GTN) acts as a standby airport for MON in case the airport is closed for operation. Hotels and accommodations, on the other hand, are fully operational year-round. Mount Cook received around 250,000 tourists annually.
