Monterrico: Laidback Beach Town
Monterrico, Guatemala is not your typical resort town. It is situated along the Pacific coast but hold yourself and you might be surprised once you set foot in town. Instead of white-sand beaches, you will come across the black sand. It is also worth noting that there are no luxurious resorts in town, just a few cabanas rented out by some locals, budget hotels, or you can also set up a tent or a hammock. It is a paradise of authentic local experience.
Best Time to Visit
Like majority of summer destinations, it is best to visit Monterrico during the summer months of June to August. These are the months with plentiful sunshine. If you want to witness turtle eggs hatch, then June is the perfect month. You can rest easy as not a lot of tourists come to the town because to be honest, Guatemala is not known for its beaches. So consider yourself lucky for discovering a gem. Monterrico hotels are also affordable too.
