North American Bear Center, Ely, Minnesota, United States of America
North American Bear Center is a non-profit organization that centers everything about bears and wildlife preservation. It is the only black bear educational institution of its kind that works closely with the Wildlife Research Institute and the acclaimed biologist Dr. Lynn Rogers. Here, you will meet the “ambassador bears,” namely Holly, Tasha, Lucky, and Ted. They live in a 4-hectare forested area that has waterfalls and a pond. Within this enclosure, they seek an array of wild foods. They are also well-taken-care of by the educators and staff, providing them their needs to enhance their lives.
In Ely also stands the International Wolf Center. Closely similar to the Bear Center, the Wolf Center centers on the lives and behavior of wolves. Through the Exhibit Pack, you will witness them eat, play, tussle, sleep, and repeat. Here, you will also expand your knowledge about bears through video games, webinars, artwork, and other interactive programs. The Dorothy Molter Museum is also worth the trip. Tourists flock to the site to see the home of the late “The Florence Nightingale of the Wilderness,” Dorothy Molter. Her homemade craft beer still continues her legacy. If you want a quieter vacation, try camping in Superior National Forest. It's a one-million-acre forest that brims with clean lakes and verdant natural world. You will also love the rustic yet elegant Grand Ely Lounge, or the quaint and gorgeous A Stay in Ely that is close to restaurants and shops.
