Opua: The Entry to Northland
Travel to the tip of Northland Region in local Bays of Island and to find the scenic Opua, New Zealand. Opua is a popular port dock for yachts travelling across the wide Pacific Ocean. The busy harbor town of Opua was originally called Newport in 1870 together with the original plan of the government later evolved into the current name. Opua is the entry to Northland Paradise in Bays of Island. It is also the gateway to the mainland as most cruising yachts dock at this port because of its deep waters and highly accessible area.

The busy town usually gets busier during the national holiday, making Opua hotels costly. The Waitangi Day which falls in February is usually a good break for people. Many local tourists visit the town in order to get a short break from their daily hustling.
