Best Time to Visit
Originally constructed as a Naval Training Center, the airport was serviced by several airlines, the last one being the Great Lakes Aviation which ended in 2001. New life is being breathed through the airport however as the facility received a renovation in 2009, costing around $3.9 million. A new terminal was also added which cost around $1 million. Included in the renovations is an extension of the runway and repaving of the asphalt surface with more lighting. Despite the fact that no flights are currently being serviced through the airport, educational institutions are using the available space. In fact, the Indian Hills Community College uses the space to teach aviation maintenance technology, avionic technology, pilot training, and more. From the airport, you can quickly visit the small areas of Knoxville, Leighton, and Pella.
