Outjo, Namibia: Dreamland for the Fun and Excitement
Outjo, Namibia is a small town in the northwestern part of the country occupying a cluster of low hills; thus, its name is Herero for "little hills" which surround the town. It is also known as a cattle farming center and serves as the gateway to Damaraland and the famous Etosha National Park. There are still traces of German-built solid structures such as the Water Tower and the Frank House.
Best Time to Visit
In terms of weather, the best to visit Outjo is from mid-April to June. The bulk of visitors troop to town in September, followed by April and August, notwithstanding the hikes in prices for Outjo Namibia hotels. But if you're looking for more budget-friendly rates, fewer crowds, and cooler temperatures, then a visit to Outjo at the tail-end of winter in October will fit you just right.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Spend time at the Outjo Museum occupying one of Outjo's earliest buildings, the Franke House, which was constructed in 1899 and sees the exhibits on political and natural history. Then drop by Naulila Monument sprawled on an open area which commemorates those killed in an attack in 1914. You can also visit the Outjo Public Library. Less than 10 minutes from central Outjo is the Sasa Safari Camp, which has rustic bungalows built using local stone. The Bush Pillow Guest House, located in Otjiwarongo, offers rooms traditionally decorated with wooden furnishings and very near shops and restaurants. Also in Otjiwarongo is C'est Si Bon Hotel, housed in African-style buildings amidst a beautiful garden setting.
