Panzhihua, A Mountainous City in Southern Sichuan
A prefecture-level city in the southmost portion of the province of Sichuan, Panzhihua, China is home to no less than 1.2 million residents in the metropolitan area, the majority of whom are immigrants. Panzhihua boasts of being the only Chinese city named after a flower. The landscape of the town is generally mountainous, with its economy centered on mining, natural resource development, and tourism. As a matter of fact, the city was recognized as “China Excellent Tourist City” in 2005. September promises guests with relatively cheaper Panzhihua, China hotels, and comfortable weather for sightseeing. This also coincides with the country’s celebration of their yearly Mid-Autumn Festival that runs for three days. During this season, the city is covered with lanterns and regional activities are held. This is similar to the Thanksgiving celebration in the US. The tourist population during this season is fairly low compared to January when hundred and thousands flock to the area.
