Port Blair, A Quaint City of History, Culture, and Festivity
As the capital city of the islands of Andaman and Nicobar, Port Blair, India is unsurprisingly packed with over 100,000 residents. The city is the main entrance to the island group with the Veer Savarkar International Airport located within the city limits. The first settlers in the area are believed to be the Andaman tribes of North Africa who migrated out of the continent about 60,000 years ago and found their way to the island group. Today, the city has developed into a thriving community with hotels, accommodations, and luxurious amenities readily available.
Best Time to Visit
Classified to have tropical monsoon climate, Port Blair is marked with plenty of rain throughout the year, with January to March as the rainiest. Although the weather is typically wet during this season, tourist population is still at its highest, most notably since the Island Tourism Festival is hosted by this time of year. Port Blair, India hotels are relatively expensive as well, so make sure to book early.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Port Blair is home to several tourist attractions, one of which is the Corbyn’s Cove. If you’re interested to see this beauty, the nearest hotel to the site is the Peerless Resort Port Blair or the Hornbill Nest Resort. While in the town, make sure to drop by the popular historic Cellular Jail. This colonial prison was used by the British authorities back in the 1900s when the country was still struggling to gain their independence. Ten to fifteen minutes drive from the attraction is the cozy hotels of Fortune Resort Bay Island and Sinclairs Bayview Port Blair.
