Piarco International Airport – POS Port of Spain
Piarco International Airport is located in the eastern section of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. It is serving the Island of Trinidad and one of the two international airports in the country. The airport is adjacent to the town of Piarco. This bustling town is found in the northside with one of the few natural savannahs left. In terms of passengers, the airport is considered one of the busiest in the whole of Caribbean. POS is the airport code of this busy airport. This is also the main hub of the region’s largest airline, Caribbean Airlines. Today, it has flights going to Europe, the Americas and other parts of the world.
Best Time to Visit
POS-Piarco International Airport opened in 1931 to serve as a government facility. During the war, the US Military used it as a base for its submarine units. In 2001, there is a construction of a new terminal building and taxiways. The old building is now being used for cargo. The airport is surrounded by cities of San Juan and Woodbrook.
