Rondonopolis Airport, with airport code ROO and also known as Maestro Marinho Franco Airport, is a public facility operated by Aeroeste, which serves Rondonopolis, the third largest municipality in Brazil’s state of Mato Grosso. It is named after Marinho de Oliveira Franco, more popularly known as Maestro Marinho Franco, a saxophonist, composer, conductor, arranger, and musical group trainer who left a promising career in Rio de Janeiro to settle permanently in Rondonopolis in 1951. On the 13th of September 2000, the state of Mato Grosso honored him posthumously, christening ROO after him for his cultural contributions through music.
