San Diego: A Cozy Town in the Coast of the North Pacific Ocean
San Diego, Nicaragua, is a small town located on the western side of the country, near the northern bank of the Cintalapa River. Visitors to the area can reach San Diego via two airports serving the region, Augusto Cesar Sandino International Airport and Costa Esmeralda Airport. Between the two airfields, the former is the closest to the city as it is only about an hour and a half away. Meanwhile, Costa Esmeralda Airport is located in the town of Tola and is over two hours away.
Best Time to Visit
The town of San Diego is open to visitors all year-round, mainly because of the fact that the city experiences very little rain throughout the year. That said, you need not worry about the weather, whether you come during the winter or in the middle of summer. There is not much activity in the city, although you can expect a high volume of tourists from December to February. During this time, San Diego, Nicaragua hotels are relatively more expensive than usual.
What to Do & Area Attractions
If you’re coming to San Diego in the summer, come to Quisala Beach and San Domingo Beach, which are around 30 to 60 minutes away from the town center. For indoor explorations, you can always go church hopping around the town and visit various religious structures like San Miguel Church.
