Sassafras is a small rural community that is part of Latrobe’s local government northwest of the Tasmanian Region. It is situated about 12 miles inland from Devonport town. Its western boundary is the Mersey while the Bass Highway is its border from northwest to south. Sassafras is known for it’s for its timbers that are considered dynamic in coloring and most variable.
