Solitaire: A Small Welcoming Town for Tourist Stopovers
Located in the center of Namibia, Solitaire is a small town that was bought by Willem Christoffel van Coller to be used for farming in 1948. Its name was given by Willem Coller’s wife. Although there is not really much to see and do in the small town, several major tourist routes pass through it making it visitors’ stopover spot. The nearest airport to Solitaire is used mostly by private helicopters and airplanes, the Airstrip Solitaire.
Best Time to Visit
If you are coming to Solitaire in Namibia or to its neighboring areas, then you should know that the warmest months in the city are from January to March and May. The coldest season is from June to September. Book a Solitaire hotel ahead of time to avoid hassles.
What to Do & Area Attractions
There is nothing much to see and do in the small town of Solitaire in Namibia. However, the town has some necessities for stopovers including a bakery, gas station, and tire repair shop. Tourists who stop for a quick break though, or those who pass by appreciate the views of the Mt. Remhoogteberge. The Namib Desert and rocky foothills are also wonderful views.
Close to the Namib Naukluft National Park, a good place to spend the night is Solitaire Lodge. The simple rooms of the property offer an African-theme and modern conveniences. The property has a swimming pool for recreation. Also near the park is Soft Adventure Camp. The clean rooms of the property have comfortable beds. Staying here also allows tourists to have fun encounters with animals in the park.
