Springfield: Where the Whole Town Shares in the Fun
Springfield is a small town located in Orangeburg County in South Carolina, United States. Before Springfield, SC came to be known by its current name, it used to be known as Millersville. But, with development of a railroad, the town grew and developed very fast into what it is today. Springfield, South Carolina has been hosting the SC Governor’s Frog Jump since the year 1969. It brings people together from all of South Carolina to celebrate this unique competition. There are several Springfield, SC hotels to stay in and around town. Best Time to Visit
The most comfortable months to visit Springfield are in the months of October, May, and April when the weather is most pleasant. Another interesting time to visit the town is during the SC Governor’s Frog Jump or the annual Egg Striking. There’ll be more people than usual and hotels more expensive, but it is a unique experience any first-time visitor shouldn’t miss.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The Springfield High School is listed as part of the National Register of Historic Places, built in 1928-1929. A visit to the Edisto Memorial Gardens is also a memorable thing to do while in town and maybe even go on the Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail. At the end of the day, rest and enjoy the good accommodations at the Claridge House Bed and Breakfast as well as the River Bottom Farms Family Campground, both of which are near Springfield.
