Silur Airfield – SWR Silur

Silur Airfield or Silur Airport has the code of SWR. It is found in Silur, Papua New Guinea. The airport facility is serving the largest island in the country and that is New Ireland or Latangai. It is part of the New Ireland province. This island is part of Bismark Archipelago. The main city center is called the Kavieng, which is in the northern part of the island.

Silur Airfield is located at an elevation of 217 feet above sea level. It is geographically situated on the north coast in the southeast area of New Ireland. Before the war and during the Pacific War, the airport is part of New Guinea. The airport was built in 1970s. It has a single runway that can only accommodate light aircraft. Currently, the airport has deteriorated and not maintained by the government.
